Injection Molded Plastics and Tooling
Tooling
EMS offers design, engineering, and computerized rapid prototyping for a complete range of mold-making services which minimize your development lead time from concept to production. EMS will create the appropriate tooling and mold making strategy for you. For a complex small product the tooling and molding of the test-series will generally be done in Taiwan, and then the tools will be shipped to our facility in China once production ramps up. Larger tools will be built and tested in our China facility. “Mock Up” molded parts can be obtained in 3 Days using our very cost competitive rapid tooling services. We accept all types of engineering CAD files. Typically, we use solid works and Pro/E, but can work with any version of engineering software. Using our CAD/CAM software, our engineers will design an innovative mold that is cost effective and yields a very high level of performance. Our toolmakers will build a mold with our CNC machine centers which are placed through scrupulous inspections after which test shots will be conducted. With weekly tooling reports, our customers are kept informed throughout the entire process.

Injection Molding
vertical injection molding EMS Technologies works with all types of high reliability plastics and have manufactured a large portfolio of custom, high quality, high tolerance plastic parts every year in such industries as automotive, marine, industrial, and commercial products. EMS operates computer-controlled injection-molding machines, which are programmed for fast-cycle molding capabilities and dimensional tolerances necessary for the highest part-to-part reproducibility. Our injection molding capabilities include 2-shot, 3-shot, insert and gas assist injection molding using a range of thermoset and thermoplastic materials and colors. This allows you to select the proper material and process to meet the most difficult design requirements. Once your part is ready for production, EMS has over 35 presses ranging from 39 ton (1.6 oz.) to 700-ton (110 oz.) capacity to produce your parts in a timely and cost effective manner using the most appropriate injection molding machine. EMS equipment includes two rotary station vertical molding machines that are particularly suitable for insert molded components.

Insert Molding

For over 30 years, EMS Technologies has been producing insert molded parts efficiently and economically. Our vertical injection molding machines with rotary station capabilities offer both the benefits of vertical molding, whereby gravity helps to keep the inserts in place when the mold opens and closes and allows an uninterrupted molding process during the placing of inserts in the mold, or the removing of molded parts. By comparison, in conventional horizontal insert molding, which we also do at EMS, the inserts have to be physically “locked” into the mold so that gravity does not force them out; and the molding process is interrupted during both the placement of the inserts in the mold, and the removal of the molded parts. Clearly, EMS’s vertical molding machines with their rotary station features offer both economy and efficiency over conventional horizontal presses. Our experience in insert molding utilizing a variety of plastic materials, has prepared us to assist you in incorporating your design into a high quality, close tolerance, and economically produced insert molded part.

Rapid Prototyping

Our proto-mold process turns your 3D Cad Model into real plastic parts within 3 days. Molded in your choice of engineering grade resins, these are ideal for for functional testing. Through our innovative approach to tooling design and construction, EMS establishes an effective method in reducing tooling lead time. Our fully integrated CAD/CAM process means improved accuracy and reduced time. This process can bridge the time between rapid prototypes and full scale production.
